Wells Fargo is seeking a Public Finance Program Associate to join the Public Finance Investment Banking team within the Municipal Products Group (MPG). Learn more about the career areas and business divisions at
MPG provides investment banking, municipal derivatives, investor solutions, institutional sales, secondary trading, and underwriting services to issuer and investor clients. Within MPG, Public Finance Investment Banking offers a full-service platform responsible for originating and structuring transactions for states, local governments, and not-for-profit clients, delivering capital-raising solutions for governments, higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and nonprofit healthcare institutions.
The Public Finance Program Associate will support the Higher Education coverage team and help manage client relationships, develop business opportunities, and execute transactions, including derivatives. The Associate will be part of deal teams that include senior and junior team members and will build a network of influence among municipal market professionals, including bond lawyers, credit providers, financial advisors, rating agencies, and key industry vendors (e.g. public accounting firms).
Issuers will include public and private higher education institutions.
In this role, you will:
* Prepare detailed cash flow analysis to support transaction execution
* Create pitch books
* Draft responses for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
* Lead due diligence meetings
* Work closely with internal and external counsel to negotiate legal documentation
* Work closely with analysts and internal partners to manage internal compliance requirements
* Maintain client relationships, including screening potential finance solutions
* Present recommendations for resolving more complex situations and exercise independent judgment while developing expertise in policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
* Collaborate and consult with functional colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders, including internal and external customers
Required Qualifications:
* 2+ years of Investment Banking Program experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired
Qualifications:
* Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting or 3+ years direct public finance work experience
* Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Experience reading, negotiating, and/or interpreting legal documents
* Leadership experience and/or experience training others in a relevant professional capacity
* An energetic self-starter who is detail-oriented with strong quantitative skills and enjoys working in a team environment; ability to work with little direct supervision and thrive in a high energy environment
* Strong knowledge and understanding of the municipal bond market
* Proficiency using AI tools to generate client pitch materials and financing ideas
* Experience and expertise running cash flows using DBC
* Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, including experience with writing formulas; organizing, analyzing, formatting, and auditing data; and identifying and correcting errors
* Ability to review and interpret financial statements
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make well-reasoned decisions and recommendations.
* High level of personal motivation, with a proactive approach to anticipating questions, identifying issues, and exceeding expectations
* Ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail, with the flexibility to quickly shift priorities and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.

* Registration for FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
