Description Of WorkThis position is located at Craven Correctional Institution, a Diagnostic Processing Center located in Vanceboro, NC with a population of 850 offenders and approximately 360 staff. This position provides supervision of subordinate staff. Conducts shift line‑up, makes shift assignments, and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Completes, reviews, and maintains time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Accounts for persons and funds and ensures that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. Identifies training needs and coordinates delivery of training to subordinate staff.
Skills And Abilities
/Management Preferences
- Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
- Knowledge of facility operations
- Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
- Documented Report Writing Skills
- The Prisons Eastern Region prefers candidates with no less than 2 years’ work experience as a Correctional Sergeant
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant, or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
