SUMMARY
The primary duties of a Code Enforcement Inspector are conducting nuisance, housing and/or zoning inspections. The position will also attend community meetings to provide updates related to the work being conducted in neighborhoods.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities:
- Performs technical work conducting inspections of properties to ensure compliance with City's Housing, Health & Sanitation, Unified Development and Parking Ordinances.
- Serves as neighborhood liaison for code enforcement issues
- Inspects single and multi-family dwellings, vacant commercial properties, vacant lots, abandoned/junk vehicles, businesses, etc., to ensure compliance with City ordinances
- Takes necessary steps to ensure ordinance compliance by notifying property owners and tenants of violations
- Testifies at hearings such as the Housing Appeals Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment and Environmental Court
- Participates in meetings and educational sessions with citizens, neighborhood groups, neighborhood leaders and civic organizations to explain the City's ordinance enforcement programs
- Serves as a member of Service Area team with an objective to identify and connect all H&NS functions
- Must be able to obtain State Building Inspection Certification within three years of employment
- Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate assigned areas
- Excellent facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Must have ability to use a personal computer and related technology to prepare reports and correspondence
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to obtain a City driving permit
- Graduation from a two-year college or university with a degree in business administration, public administration or related field with related work experience preferred
- Experience in residential construction or delivery of inspection/code enforcement services preferred
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and must receive a State Building Inspection certification within three years of employment.
