Overview
CEENTA is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to support Providers in delivering high-quality patient care. In this role, you’ll perform clinical testing, assist with exams and procedures, and help keep our busy ophthalmic clinics running smoothly.
What You Will Do- Greet, room, and prepare patients for examinations.
- Obtain and document medical/surgical history, chief complaint, HPI, vital signs, medications, and allergies in the EHR.
- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic workups, including visual acuity, confrontation visual fields, pupil assessment, tonometry, keratometry, ocular motility, refraction, pachymetry, lensometry, glare testing, color plates, stereo testing, Amsler grid, and Schirmer testing.
- Complete specialty testing such as OCT, visual fields, topography, Pentacam, and biometry.
- Assist the Provider with exams, treatments, and in-office procedures; administer medications as directed.
- Serve as a scribe when needed, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Provide patient education and respond to patient questions and messages through phone or EHR.
- Schedule patient appointments, in-office procedures, and surgeries; maintain Provider schedules.
- Manage work queues and index clinical documents into the EHR.
- Clean and restock exam rooms; sterilize equipment and maintain OSHA-compliant safety standards.
- Maintain clinic supply inventory and place orders when needed.
- Support the onboarding and training of new staff and apprentices.
- Collaborate with Providers and clinical team members to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
- Travel to other CEENTA locations as needed.
You’ll welcome patients, complete diagnostic testing, assist Providers with exams and procedures, document findings in the EHR, prepare rooms and equipment, schedule services, respond to patient messages, and help keep the clinic running efficiently. Build advanced testing and procedural skills, cross-train with leading subspecialists, and help us deliver efficient, high-quality care to every patient, every visit.
Schedule- Generally Mon–Fri, 8a–5p; occasional early or late clinic rotation as needed depending on the provider's schedule.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2+ years in Ophthalmology/Optometry, preferred
- Strong patient communication and teamwork
- COA/COT preferred (CEENTA supports certification and can help obtain certifications)
- Dependable to travel between sites when needed
