In this highly specialised role, you will work in close collaboration with OB/GYN physicians, radiologists, and interdisciplinary specialists to provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging, detailed fetal assessments, and exceptional care to obstetric patients, including those with complex or high-risk conditions.
You will serve as a trusted clinical partner, combining advanced sonographic expertise with compassion, professionalism, and patient advocacy.
What You ll Do- Clinical Imaging & Procedure Support:
Work in close collaboration with OB/GYN physicians to obtain high-quality diagnostic ultrasound images while delivering exceptional, patient-centred care. - Independently perform detailed OB/GYN and high-risk obstetric ultrasounds using advanced Doppler and imaging techniques.
- Provide real-time ultrasound guidance to physicians during complex procedures including chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and other fetal or diagnostic interventions.
- Critically evaluate and analyze images for quality, accuracy, and diagnostic value; repeat or adjust studies as clinically indicated.
- Maintain strong technical proficiency to ensure optimal imaging outcomes and patient safety.
- Documentation & Reporting:
Confirm patient prenatal history, current medications, allergies, and relevant clinical information within the EMR. - Complete all required electronic documentation, imaging reports, and procedural logs in a timely and compliant manner.
- Communicate pertinent findings and observations promptly to providers to support clinical decision-making.
- Room & Equipment Preparation:
Sterilize and disinfect ultrasound probes and equipment according to Novant Health Clinical Compliance and infection prevention standards. - Prepare and reset rooms between patients, ensuring linens, supplies, and equipment are fully stocked and ready.
- Perform routine equipment checks and quality control to maintain operational readiness and image reliability.

Experience:
Explain procedures clearly and compassionately, using plain language and teach-back methods to ensure understanding. - Create a calm, reassuring environment that reduces anxiety and builds trust, particularly for patients navigating complex or high-risk pregnancies.
- Keep patients informed regarding visit flow, timing, and next steps.
- Demonstrate empathy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for the unique needs of every patient and family.
- Team Collaboration & Professionalism:
Communicate effectively with OB/GYN physicians, nurses, and fellow sonographers to coordinate seamless care. - Demonstrate flexibility and a team-first mindset to support departmental needs and patient volume.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.

- Education:
High School Diploma or GED, required. - ARDMS or ARRT registry required. If not currently registered, must be eligible for registry and has 12 months from date of hire to complete registry.
- Experience:
One year experience in Sonography, preferred. - Licensure/Certification: ARRT RT(S) or ARDMS certified or Board eligible, required.
