Position: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – School-Based

Overview

Job Description:

We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our school-based therapy team. The COTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to support students in developing the skills needed to participate successfully in their educational environment.

Responsibilities
  • Implement occupational therapy treatment plans as directed by the supervising OT.
  • Provide individual and small-group therapy services to students in classroom and school-based settings.
  • Support development of fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-care, and functional school skills.
  • Assist students with activities related to handwriting, classroom participation, organization, and adaptive skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
  • Document therapy sessions, progress notes, and data in compliance with school and state requirements.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as requested and contribute to student progress reporting.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow district policies, IDEA guidelines, and professional standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current COTA license/certification in the state of employment.
  • Experience or interest in pediatric or school-based therapy.
  • Knowledge of IEPs and special education processes preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and needs.
