What We Offer
Novant Health Bariatrics Solutions is seeking an Adolescent Dietitian. The Dietitian performs nutritional education and assessments on patients ages 12‑17 years old, consults, educates patients or clients in one‑on‑one and group settings on risk‑factor reduction related to nutrition management. Communication may be via phone, face‑to‑face or video. Provides coaching to include, but not limited to, behavior changes towards improving health status, reducing health risk and improving quality of life of patients.
The Dietitian optimizes nutritional status of patients through medical nutrition therapy to patients with nutrition risk, including nutrition assessment, individualized care plans, provider‑ordered recommendations and implementation of nutrition therapy, education and counseling for disease and nutrition risk management and evaluation of outcomes of these interventions. Scheduling, follow‑up and documentation are performed, and the Dietitian works and communicates with the interdisciplinary team in the management of health and nutrition factors.
You'll Do
- Complete nutrition evaluation on each patient upon entry into the facility, including diet habit survey and sodium intake analysis when available.
- Provide feedback from evaluations to patients.
- Develop and implement nutrition education to ensure opportunities for each patient and/or support person to learn healthy nutrition; provide appropriate educational material and refer to internal and external resources.
- Monitor patient progress for the facility in the form of written and verbal follow‑ups after patients have attended nutrition classes.
- Communicate with interdisciplinary staff regarding any patient problems, concerns or progress.
- Educate patients concerning lifestyle changes, in one‑on‑one and group settings.
- Participate as a member of interdisciplinary treatment team for comprehensive medical management of patients, including assisting in educating patients on home exercise and nutrition interventions as well as follow‑up evaluations.
- Promote behavioral changes consistent with nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle modifications.
- Education:
4‑Year/Bachelors Degree, required. Bachelor in dietetics, nutrition, foods and nutrition, required. Graduate Degree, preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Clinical Dietitian, preferred. - Licensure/Certification:
- Registered Dietitian status by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, required.
- Licensed Dietitian in appropriate state, required.
- Additional Skills (required):
Ability to successfully complete generic and department‑specific skills validation and competency testing. Knowledge, ability and skills to support patient education and engagement in self‑care management to accommodate cultural diversity, age‑specific or behavior needs among the patients being served. - Additional Skills (preferred):
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to relay information to diverse audiences for one‑on‑one consultations, small and large group presentations; dynamic presence for media interviews, health fairs and other invited presentations/appearances.
