Position Summary
Novant Health Cancer Institute Thoracic is seeking a Patient Services Coordinator III position. The Patient Services Coordinator is responsible for delivering exceptional front‑end administrative and customer service support to ensure a positive and efficient patient experience. This role performs accurate patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and financial transactions while supporting clinic operations through cross‑training in multiple administrative functions.
What You’ll Do Patient Registration & Scheduling- Accurately record and maintain patient demographic, insurance, and financial information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments to optimize provider schedules and clinic workflow.
- Perform patient check‑in and check‑out processes, including updating records and verifying insurance coverage.
- Verify insurance eligibility, authorizations, and referrals as required.
- Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances in accordance with organizational policy.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
- Address patient inquiries and concerns professionally and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to support coordinated patient care.
- Cross‑train in multiple administrative support functions to ensure clinic coverage and continuity of operations.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational privacy and security standards.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- One year of clerical experience in a medical office setting, required. Other related experience may be considered in lieu of medical office experience.
- Knowledge of medical office software for updating patient demographic information, posting charges, copays, and scheduling patient appointments.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with changing priorities.
- Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Teamwork and initiative.
- Basic medical terminology required; knowledge can be obtained through formal classes or work experience.
- High level of working knowledge of EPIC systems.
- Detailed knowledge of multiple payors billing requirements.
- Familiarity with coding requirements for practice specialty.
- Proficient in use of all computer software utilized in practice.
