The MDM Business Analyst plays a crucial role in bridging business requirements and Master Data Management (MDM) solution design. The role focuses on requirements gathering, business process definition, data profiling, quality improvement, and supporting implementation of MDM capabilities across domains such as Customer, Product, Provider, or Commercial Party.

• Requirements Gathering & Analysis
  • Gather and document MDM business requirements, including BRDs, approach documents, UI requirements, schema needs, enrichment rules, and data loading requirements
  • Conduct workshops with business SMEs to define and prioritize key MDM requirements
  • Analyze data consolidation, harmonization, interface requirements, and profiling outputs.
• Data Profiling & Data Quality
  • Perform or support data discovery and profiling across source systems
  • Analyze data issues, identify root causes, and propose improvements to data quality
  • Assist in defining data quality rules (cleansing, validation, transformation).
  • Create SQL scripts to extract data, identify anomalies, and support remediation.
• MDM Functional Expertise
  • Identify and define matching rules for ingesting data into MDM hubs (e.g., Customer/Party domain).
  • Understand and document normal MDM workflows and lifecycle processes
  • Assist in identifying and validating golden records.
  • Apply data governance concepts and support stewardship processes
• Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand vision, define business cases, and align on MDM roadmaps
  • Collaborate with technical SMEs, MDM architects, and integration teams to convert business requirements into functional specifications.
  • Partner with development teams to support solution validation and data rule implementation
  • Facilitate JAD (Joint Application Design) sessions for requirement clarification.
• Testing & Validation
  • Support UAT, including test case creation, data validation testing, and defect triage.
  • Validate match reports, golden record identification, data quality results, and create key business statistics.
• Documentation & Governance
  • Draft business process documents, requirement specs, mapping documents, and governance deliverables.
  • Review findings, results, and deliverables with business and IT stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of MDM concepts including survivorship, match/merge, workflows, golden record creation, and hierarchy management.
• Experience in data profiling, data quality analysis, and writing SQL queries.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and stewardship practices.

• Ability to create BRDs, FSDs, NFRs, data flow diagrams, process maps, and requirement matrices.
• Strong experience in conducting workshops, eliciting requirements, and managing stakeholder expectations.

• Strong SQL skills for data validation and profiling.
• Understanding of integration patterns, data ingestion flows, and downstream consumption requirements.

• Excellent communication skills to interface with business SMEs, IT teams, and leadership.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, and attention to detail.

• Prior experience in Customer, Product, or Party MDM implementations.
• Experience working on large-scale MDM transformations or SaaS MDM platforms like Informatica IDMC.
• Familiarity with insurance domain (aligned to AIG Syn‑MDM project context).

The annual salary for this position is between $100,000 – $160,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
