Description:
Technical Leader, Digitalization Research AreaEPRI is looking for a Technical Leader to support advancing innovation in monitoring, process controls, process automation, advanced analytics, and machine learning with familiarity of cybersecurity needs to enable the digital systems used in energy supply. This role combines deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and strategic vision to address current operational challenges while shaping the future of intelligent, data-driven energy systems.
A critical aspect of this role is the ability and willingness to collaborate extensively with internal and external stakeholders across energy supply asset reliability, operations, engineering, condition-based maintenance, control systems, and cybersecurity domains. The role also requires engagement with emerging technology providers and ecosystem collaborators. The position is expected to support multiple areas within EPRI’s Energy Supply portfolio (e.g., thermal assets, renewable assets, nuclear assets, emerging fuels, etc.).
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Strategic Technology and Business Leadership Contribute to and help shape forward-looking technical strategies aligned with digitalization, advanced process control and automation, advanced and applied analytics for predictive maintenance and optimized asset management, and cyber-secure AI-enabled decision support.
Demonstrate power generation industry experience and business acumen.
Demonstrate knowledge and success in aligning technical innovation with measurable member and societal value.
Support development of technical strategies, research priorities, and growth through engagement and technical rigor.
Lead adoption of value realization through demonstrations and applications of advanced process control, advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions across utility operations.
Lead efforts to communicate research results from activities, which can include organizing meetings/conferences, collaborating with staff across EPRI to facilitate project execution, and bringing value to EPRI’s members and the public
Balance near-term operational needs with long-term transformation goals of members
Cross Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement Highly effective communicator and collaborator with demonstrated ability, acumen, and willingness to partner across reliability, operations, control systems, engineering, condition-based maintenance, and cybersecurity functions
Engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
Act as a trusted advisor to utilities and industry partners
Participate in technical committees, standard association, workshops, and advisory forums
Provides guidance and mentorship to team members
Technology Partner Engagement Engage with technology providers, OEMs, startups, and digital solution vendors
Evaluate emerging solutions in monitoring, process controls, and advanced equipment health analytics
Support the adoption of future-focused technologies such as autonomous operations
Contribute to pilot initiatives and validation of next-generation solutions
Program Contribution and Portfolio Growth Leads the development, planning, and execution of complex project work, including working across program areas to meet objectives
Prepares and presents research reports
Support continuous improvement in quality and growth of research portfolios
Assist in shaping multidisciplinary project scopes, deliverables, and value propositions
Collaborate with sector and program leadership to ensure alignment with industry priorities

Works independently on technical activities without direct supervision.
Regularly demonstrates responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives or problems where the relationships between cause and effect are difficult to establish and little or no precedence exists, and the use of creative and imaginative thinking is required.
