Job Summary

This position seeks to directly manage database and SQL services, prepare feasibility studies, and time/cost estimates. Plan and direct the development of new or revised databases, SQL queries and jobs, reports, Tableau datasets and visualizations, and other data‑related functions for ministry use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Staff development and leadership for the Database Administrators, SQL Analysts, and Report Writers
  • Stewardship, management, and oversight of the Association databases
  • Managing the team that designs, builds, queries, and manages ministry databases
  • Maintaining ministry data across multiple enterprise systems including financial, donor, and website databases
  • Managing processes that import data into ministry databases and ensuring data integrity
  • Collaborating with vendors during data migrations to new software platforms
  • Working closely with Cyber Security and IT Operations to ensure data and databases are secured and run on current server technology
  • Working closely with Application and Web Developers to ensure donor and financial data is accessed securely
  • Providing guidance to staff regarding data structure, dependencies, and definitions
  • Ensuring staff receive sufficient training on new technologies
  • Actively completing SQL programming, mailing list, and report writing requests in a hands‑on capacity
  • Providing IT solutions and assistance to customers across the Association
  • Leading the database services team using Agile/Scrum practices: sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and retrospectives to ensure iterative delivery
  • Partnering with cross‑functional IT and business teams to align database deliverables with Agile project timelines
  • Driving the database services team to deliver on‑time, high‑quality solutions that meet business objectives while adhering to Agile principles and secure SDLC practices
Other Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor staff professional development plans

Skills and Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience/certifications) and 5‑7 years working experience with database management and SQL programming in a team leader, supervisory, and/or management role in a medium to large size enterprise environment
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on technical experience with enterprise financial and donor management (or CRM) systems
  • Five or more years of hands‑on SQL and relational database experience (MSSQL and MySQL preferred)
  • Heavy user contact and training experience
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences
  • Proven ability to understand and effectively communicate the large picture while supervising details
  • Proven experience managing database development within a full SDLC framework, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support
  • Experience with project management and Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, or similar) for backlog tracking, sprint planning, and documentation
  • Experience applying Agile or hybrid SDLC methodologies for database‑related projects
  • Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Good listening skills and ability to solve business challenges through others
  • Excellent business relationship development skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
