Web Application Firewall Engineer

Position DescriptionThe Web Application Firewall Engineer works within the Information Protection & Risk Management organization, collaborating with the Cyber Security Technology group to deploy, sustain, and monitor technical controls and tools that meet security requirements. This role focuses on ensuring secure configurations and maintaining documentation for critical security applications.
Job Responsibilities- Operations and monitoring, day‑to‑day troubleshooting for web application firewalls (F5 and Akamai) across the enterprise.
- Provide expert‑level troubleshooting for supported technologies.
- Perform architecture and engineering responsibilities for existing technologies and new security projects.
- Conduct regular health checks and user‑activity audits.
- Author and maintain documents related to the design, purpose, operation, and management of security applications.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience deploying and maintaining enterprise web application firewall products (Akamai Kona, F5 ASM/AWAF, Salt API Protection).
- Primary responsibility is supporting our security infrastructure and projects, with potential to assume additional network security technologies such as Network Access Control and Firewall.
- Strong troubleshooting skills: packet capture analysis, CLI commands, and familiarity with network protocols.
- Understanding of application‑layer TCP/IP Layer 7 security fundamentals.
- Ability to analyze application logs and collaborate with developers to ensure secure coding practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems or a related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to interact with personnel at all organizational levels and to understand business imperatives.
- Strong customer/client focus with the ability to manage expectations and provide superior service while building long‑term relationships.
- Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule and be on call for incident resolution.
- Bonus:
Coding/scripting experience (Python or Power Shell) for task automation.
