Tax Attorney – Charlotte, NC

Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a leading southeastern law firm with a national practice, is seeking a Staff Attorney to join its Tax team in Charlotte.

Our practice represents Fortune 500 companies, professional sport organizations and other taxpayers in audit, settlement, protest and/or appeal with state tax agencies, advising clients with respect to restructurings, state and local taxation of corporations, partnerships, and limited‑liability companies, as well as advising clients on state and local tax compliance issues.

This role offers the chance to contribute on high‑stakes matters under demanding timelines, delivering practical, business‑focused tax solutions. You’ll be part of multi‑disciplinary work streams that support transactions, tax planning, controversy defense, and incentive strategies, helping clients navigate complex regimes with precision and responsiveness.

• Calculates annual fixed asset expenses, reconciles reports with trial balances, discusses purchases with client, and prepares annual reports for client review.
• Assists in calculating monthly use tax accruals for clients.
• Prepares responses and documents for tax audits.
• Researches federal and state tax issues.
• Discusses tax issues, resolutions, and planning opportunities with other team members.
• Reviews documents relating to potential client acquisitions, expansions, etc.
• Prepares tax credit documentation.
• Reviews and edits contracts and agreements, focusing specifically on tax issues.
• Prepares filing packages for state tax incentive refunds.

• J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar admission in a relevant jurisdiction.
• 2–5 years of corporate tax experience in a law firm or public accounting tax department.
