About the RoleGardner Skelton is seeking an exceptional people managerto lead and elevate the day-to-day operations of our legal support team (legal assistants, paralegals, and law clerks).Legal Support Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role focused on building a strong, consistent support function across practice groups through smart staffing, strategic guidance, clear workflows,strong training, andhigh standards for quality.
Along with your duties supporting our legal support staff,you’llpartner closely with attorneys and firm leadership to ensure our teams are appropriately resourced, deadlines are met, and support staff have the tools and guidance they need to thrive. The right person for this role is equalpartspeople leader and process thinker: someone who enjoys developing others, spotting inefficiencies, and creating structure that helps everyone do their best work.
WhatYou'll Do
- Build andmaintainonboarding and training programs that ensure consistent standards and confidence in firm procedures, document workflows, and technology.
- Provide day-to-day supervision ofwork flow, staffing coverage, and workload distribution to support attorneys and client needs across matters.
- Help recruit, interview, hire, and onboard legal support roles, including legal assistants, paralegals, and law clerks.
- Set clear expectations for quality, professionalism, and timeliness—and step in toassistwhen urgent deadlines or high-volume periods require extra support.
- Coach legal support staff through regular feedback and development conversations, helping them strengthen skills and grow in their roles.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address performance concerns promptly, constructively, and consistently.
- Serve asa central pointof coordination between attorneys and legal support staff—helping align priorities, triage requests, and solve problems before they become bottlenecks.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency across the support function (templates, checklists, procedures, document management practices, and smart use of technology).
- Help create and enforce best practices related to legal support services to ensure consistent client-facing excellence across practice areas.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a law firm support role (legal assistant, paralegal, or similar), with deep familiarity with the pace and expectations of a busy practice.
- Prior people-management experience, including hiring, performance coaching, and team leadership.
- Strong working knowledge of common legal procedures and law firm operations, including deadlines, filings, and matter support workflows.
- Comfort with legal technology and document systems, plus strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment.
