Capital Equipment Procurement Manager
QTS is a global leader in digital infrastructure, providing world‑class data centers that support customers’ strategic growth initiatives. We are seeking a Capital Equipment Procurement Manager in the mechanical category to plan, budget, and source critical OFCI equipment for our projects.
Responsibilities- Analyze capital plans to identify equipment and services required for OFCI equipment budget and rolling 12‑month procurement plans, adjusting to sales projection updates.
- Provide accurate cost and schedule information to Development Program Managers to support budget approvals and project schedule planning.
- Report weekly development procurement status, progress, and recommendations to executives to align on business objectives.
- Evaluate new critical infrastructure technologies with partners to ensure cost, availability, reliability, and efficiency meet QTS standards.
- Analyze category spend, conduct research to understand supply market and commodity trends, deploy strategic plans, and track KPIs.
- Ensure QTS policies and processes are followed, continuously improving processes and systems to drive best‑in‑class procurement performance.
- Collaborate with Global Procurement leaders to align and execute category strategies.
- Identify and implement strategies to improve procurement initiatives, increase speed to market, improve quality, and achieve lower total cost of ownership.
- Assess risk levels, manage supply continuity, develop contingency plans, and establish risk management strategies to mitigate risk.
- Lead ongoing category management activities within assigned scope to achieve business objectives and benefit targets.
- Develop RFP packages and lead competitive sourcing events to secure commercial value, risk mitigation, and performance requirements in contracts.
- Support sales revenue generation by securing competitive NRC costing for customer deals.
- Solicit and develop construction‑related contracts to support QTS projects and timelines.
- Monitor market supply chain conditions, anticipate needs of various projects, and ensure ordering of OFCI equipment for just‑in‑time delivery.
- Resolve unforeseen technical and commercial issues, engage subject matter experts, and escalate as necessary to close processes with corrective actions.
- Ensure the latest design standards are distributed to OFCI suppliers.
- Obtain OFCI equipment submittals to support design, specification, and process approval for each assigned project.
- Track and manage equipment inventory locations, analyze and recommend action plans to prioritize reallocation of capital assets when possible.
- Develop KPIs to measure supplier performance (on‑site delivery performance, cost savings, etc.).
- Ensure mutual contracted obligations bring negotiated values to fruition.
- Lead periodic business reviews (weekly meetings, QBRs, problem resolution).
- Consult with Site Operations teams, suppliers, finance, etc., to be the escalation point on issues and lead process improvement initiatives.
- Travel to QTS sites, OEM facilities, trade conferences, and networking events to strengthen relationships and support strategic positioning.
- Provide ad‑hoc assistance to Site Operations needs for difficult‑to‑source equipment, parts, and services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Management, Operations, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of relevant experience in sourcing, procurement, project management, or engineering.
- Experience developing long‑range sourcing plans for assigned categories to reduce total costs, optimize supplier value, and meet internal customer requirements.
- Eight or more years of direct experience in global supply chain management, project management, category management, strategic sourcing, mechanical engineering, and negotiations in a variety of categories.
- Data center or critical infrastructure industry experience including facility management, critical electrical and mechanical equipment, construction design and construction, and professional services.
