POSITION SUMMARY

The employee coordinates the activities of carriers resulting in their optimum use, which contributes to the overall profitability of Epes Logistics Services, Inc. and its associated subsidiaries and divisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and maintain a list of carriers to cover freight and communicate with them daily using phone, email, and other technology; assign carriers as a manager and work daily or hourly to source capacity.
  • Establish Epes Logistics Services, Inc. as a customer with a select group of outside carriers, emphasizing our value and strengths to create repeat‑business partnerships.
  • Secure adequate capacity for all freight booked in the system.
  • Make decisions and implement pick‑up and delivery arrangements to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Track and trace loads scheduled for pick‑up and monitor delivery status to guarantee on‑time service and correct equipment.
  • Meet or exceed load count, margin dollar, and margin percent budget goals.
  • Identify major issues between carriers and Epes Logistics and bring them to resolution.
  • Coordinate and monitor performance of affiliate and partner carriers.
  • Maintain daily reports and review them for carrier performance.
  • Work and analyze available loads daily for repetitive lanes that could become dedicated.
  • Respond and find carriers for all submitted requests from sales, operations, or pricing on specific needs.
  • Integrate with marketing and sales staff to establish specific customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate support for the Epes Carriers, Inc. Quality Management System and its objectives, as applicable.
  • Work with the Vice President of Quality to establish and promote a true quality improvement process that includes the Quality Management System at the company with the involvement of all personnel.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager.
QUALIFICATIONSPRIORITIES SERVED
  • Create and manage the appointed carrier base.
  • Secure carriers within the customer rate schedule to ensure profit margins required by the budget.
  • Ensure carriers meet customer pick‑up and delivery schedules.
  • Seek additional carrier opportunities to guarantee the carrier list is sufficient to meet budgeted goals.
  • Secure carriers to insure all lanes are covered as required.
  • Follow up on customer concerns relating to carrier performance and eliminate carriers that do not meet Epes Logistics standards.
  • Ensure customer and carrier concerns or complaints are handled on a timely basis.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • College degree in transportation or a related business field preferred.
  • Ability to sell and build relationships over the phone.
  • Related experience in transportation/trucking.
  • Good working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.).
  • EDI and/or innovative software background helpful.
  • Excellent work history with proven track record.
  • Strong carrier following recommended.
  • Excellent data entry skills—accuracy is very important.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment drug test.
  • Professional, clean, neat appearance.
  • No convictions of serious crimes.
  • Travel as needed.
