Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Material Handler I As a Material Handler I you will be responsible for loading, unloading, processing and storing hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility with supervision.

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies and maintaining safe practices.
  • Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.
  • Operates a forklift and Bobcat with attachments.
  • Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage.
  • Performs basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed.
  • Performs chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues.
  • Utilizes barcode system equipment to document inventory activities.
  • Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials.
  • Uses DOT knowledge to label inbound materials for storage and shipping of containers.
  • Utilizes equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks.
  • Operates a hydraulic baler for cardboard and other materials.
  • Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition.
  • Uses applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit regulations.
  • Follows Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers.
  • Uses appropriate PPE as needed including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
Qualifications
  • Education: High-school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience: 1+ year of related experience (required).
  • Certifications: 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred).
