Job Summary
The Packaging Technician is responsible for providing assistance in duties related to keeping the line running smoothly. The role leads direct activities for production with a focus on equipment and process.
EssentialJob Duties
- Leads team in line setup and product changeovers, identifying critical controls and issues.
- Provides production run sheets to packaging machine operators.
- Updates the production system and case total board with completed case counts to communicate goals to the next shift.
- Maintains raw material inventory and reports discrepancies.
- Sets up and operates multiple packaging machines.
- Assists in keeping the production line operating and free of jams.
- Performs basic troubleshooting and makes minor adjustments.
- Troubleshoots machinery issues related to codes, dates, and prices.
- Assists with or submits maintenance work orders and performs preventative maintenance as needed.
- Monitors weights and product appearance as required.
- Maintains GMP, PPE, safety, and quality policy compliance, setting an example and validating employee compliance.
- Communicates with Quality Assurance on holds, changeovers, etc.
- Assists supervisor in completing daily line paperwork on KPIs.
- Interprets machine data.
- Participates in training new employees and operators on the line.
- Runs checks on metal detectors to ensure proper operation.
- Keeps aisles and exits clear and removes trash from the floor.
- Supports Continuous Improvement initiatives, including 5S.
- Follows safe lifting/carrying instructions for various sizes and weights.
- Reports all job‑related injuries to supervision.
- Performs sanitation tasks such as equipment washes, seasonal cleanings, and wipeouts as directed.
- May be required for mandatory overtime and other duties as needed.
- Attention to detail and mechanical ability.
- Ability to assist supervisor or packaging coordinator in leading a team.
- Solid computer skills.
- Clear communication in both spoken and written form.
- Ownership of accountabilities and demonstration of leadership.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions).
- Experience operating machines continuously.
- Mechanical aptitude – preferred maintenance/production machine experience.
High School Diploma or GED and/or 1‑year production experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Professional Licenses or CertificationsMust be able to obtain Lockout/Tag‑Out Certification.
Physical Demands- Standing continuously.
- Walking continuously.
- Using hands continuously.
- Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
Indoor facility with occasional exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations.
