Description
Job Summary:The SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Setup Operator is responsible for preparing and setting up SMT machines and related equipment for production runs. This role ensures accurate machine configuration, material placement, and feeder setup according to work orders and production schedules, enabling high-quality and efficient PCB assembly.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Set up SMT pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens according to job specifications and setup sheets.
- Load feeders with components and verify part numbers, orientations, and quantities.
- Perform first article inspections and verify setup accuracy using appropriate tools (e.g., AOI, magnifiers, calipers).
- Assist with machine changeovers, adjustments, and minor maintenance to maintain uptime and quality.
- Collaborate with SMT operators and technicians to resolve issues with feeder loading, component placement, and solder paste application.
- Maintain proper documentation of setups, materials used, and production data.
- Follow ESD, IPC, and company safety standards at all times.
- Support inventory control by returning unused materials to stock and reporting shortages or discrepancies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for quality and process efficiency.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification a plus.
- 1–3 years of experience in electronics manufacturing or SMT assembly.
- Familiarity with SMT equipment from manufacturers such as Fuji, Panasonic, Juki, or ASM preferred.
- Understanding of electronic components, BOMs, and assembly drawings.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Skills:
- Preferred experience with IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001 standards
- Printed Circuit Board Assembly processes
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling controls.
- Normal work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 7am until 5:30pm with lunch and breaks. Some overtime may be required as needed.
