The PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) PTH (Plated Through-Hole) Hand Insertion Operator is responsible for accurately inserting through-hole components into printed circuit boards according to assembly drawings, work instructions, and bill of materials (BOM). The operator ensures high-quality workmanship and compliance with IPC and company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions to properly identify and insert PTH components.
- Insert electronic components into designated holes on PCBs while maintaining correct orientation and alignment.
- Ensure correct component values and locations are used based on visual aids and documentation.
- Trim component leads as needed and prepare boards for soldering (wave or hand soldering processes).
- Perform visual inspections for correct placement, polarity, and damage before soldering.
- Flag and report any discrepancies or quality issues to the team lead or supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and follow ESD precautions.
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Assist with rework and touch-up tasks when needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to distinguish electronic components and read assembly documentation.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
- Basic knowledge of ESD handling procedures.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience in electronics assembly or related manufacturing role.
- IPC-A-610 certification or equivalent training.
- Experience working with both leaded and RoHS-compliant assemblies.
- Previous experience with wave soldering or selective soldering processes.
