Job Overview / Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac ICU Specialist (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide advanced care for critically ill cardiac patients in a high-acuity CVICU environment. This role focuses on managing complex cardiac conditions, advanced mechanical circulatory support, and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill cardiac patients.
  • Manage patients with acute decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and post-MI complications.
  • Manage temporary mechanical circulatory support devices including ECMO, Impella, IABP, and ventricular assist devices under established protocols.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons, and the broader care team to optimize outcomes.
  • Monitor, titrate, and wean vasoactive medications, inotropes, and mechanical support devices.
  • Coordinate patient transitions between levels of care, including step-down and tertiary transfers.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, pharmacists, therapists, nutritionists, and other team members.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and cardiac critical care research.
Primary Skills
  • Advanced cardiac and critical care assessment.
  • Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation.
  • ECMO, Impella, IABP, and VAD management.
  • Vasoactive medication titration.
  • Acute cardiac patient stabilization.
Secondary Skills (Good To Have)
  • Research and protocol development experience.
  • Teaching or academic hospital exposure.
  • Quality improvement project involvement.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) required.
  • Active, unrestricted NP or PA license in the state of practice.
  • National certification (ACNP, AGACNP, or NCCPA) required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Critical care or cardiac certification (CCRN, CSC, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in cardiac critical care, CVICU, or related specialty preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with ECMO, Impella, IABP, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
