American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience.
Requirements- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with specialized equipment including Arctic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), and Belmont Rapid Infuser required
- Proficiency in critical care vasoactive drip titration and sedation/analgesic drip management required
- Experience managing invasive lines (arterial lines, CVP), ventilators, and trach care required
- Experience with CRRT required
- Experience with chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, Foley insertion, and feeding tube (G-tube/J-tube) management required
- Ability to perform aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, and oral/nasal suctioning required
- Alaris and Medfusion syringe pump experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Work setting is a 24-bed PICU within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital
- Average patient census of 21–23 patients
- Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (penetrating and non-accidental), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplant (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorder cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
- EMR is Epic;
Epic experience is required - 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation includes 2 Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays within each 6-week schedule cycle
- Holiday coverage is required
- Floating may be required to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and general Pediatric units as needed
- No on-call responsibilities for travelers
- Unit is supported 24/7 by a charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (RT), intensivist, residents, and APPs
- A health care tech and unit secretary are present each shift to assist with nursing support needs
- Centralized and bedside monitoring is used; no telemetry monitoring tech
- Equipment in use includes Alaris and Medfusion pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Philips monitors, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Arctic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, i-STAT, and Accuryn
- Orientation includes a facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedule is planned in 6-week cycles; RTO requires manager approval
- Ability and competency to float to Pediatric CVICU will be discussed during the interview
- Navy scrubs are required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Former employees who held a permanent position must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year before being considered
