Position: Registered Nurse (RN) FT Days - Float Pool - AH Mercy

Job Title

Registered Nurse (RN) – Atrium Health Mercy – Float Pool

Overview

Position:
Full-time nursing float pool.

Hours:

40 per week, 12‑hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM). Pay range: $38.20 - $57.30 per hour. Sign‑on bonus eligible and relocation bonus available for out‑of‑area candidates. Benefits eligible.

Work setting:
Atrium Health Mercy, 196‑bed facility part of Carolinas Medical Center. Float across all inpatient units based on staffing needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team.
  • Uphold and promote a culture of safety and continuous evaluation of outcomes.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely following protocols.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution.
  • Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
  • Adhere to ANA Code of Ethics and practice ethical decision‑making.
  • Appropriately delegate tasks to RN, LPN, and unlicensed assistive personnel.
  • Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation.
  • Float to other units, departments, or facilities within the service area as needed.
  • Provide age‑appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Active, unrestricted RN license (multi‑state compact or single‑state).
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience (at least 6 months outside of a new‑grad residency program).
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic records and related computer functions.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist frequently.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds and perform transfers with assistance.
  • Respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions.
  • Possible exposure to chemical and hazardous waste; protective clothing required.
  • Physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de‑escalation.
