Position: LPN - Atrium Health Behavioral Health Charlotte Therapy Support Services-FT Days

Job Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic, Charlotte (Adult and Child Population). Full‑time, day position Monday to Friday. Employee will perform nursing assessments, assist with procedures, administer medications, complete laboratory tests, and provide patient education and support in an outpatient medical clinic setting. Sign‑on bonus may be available.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and room patients for examination, obtaining vital signs and documenting health information such as chief complaint, allergies, and medications.
  • Perform laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using aseptic technique and infection‑control guidelines.
  • Assist physicians/providers with procedures and surgeries including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy.
  • Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy with selected fluids and pre‑mixed medications as permitted.
  • Provide basic patient education on procedures, self‑care, and follow‑up, and refer questions to registered nurses or physicians as per scope of practice.
  • Communicate with physicians and team members, documenting and conveying accurate, timely patient information.
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, phlebotomy (butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, under clinical supervision.
  • Organize and prepare exam rooms, labs, and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Maintain clinic equipment, performing routine cleaning, sterilization, and quality monitoring.
  • Participate in patient‑centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, applying knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
Licensure & Certification
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the nurse practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 45 days of start date unless otherwise determined by department leadership.
Education

Completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program.

Experience

No prior experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within Windows operating systems, and use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above the shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Must push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluid hazards; protective clothing and equipment required.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine‑hand manipulation skills.
  • Must operate all equipment essential for the job.
