Job Summary

Department: 36101 Carolinas Medical Center – Emergency Department

Hours:

36 per week (7p.m. – 7a.m., some weekends)

Pay Range: $38.20 – $57.30 per hour

Major Responsibilities
  • Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence‑based practices.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Engage patients and families through the continuum of care.
  • Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence outcomes.
  • Uphold and promote a culture of safety, continuously evaluating outcomes and taking action as needed.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to clinical protocols.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution to foster team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
  • Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
  • Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics, practice ethical decision‑making, and respect interdisciplinary roles.
  • Delegate appropriately to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and timely EHR documentation.
  • May be required to float to other units, departments, or facilities within the designated service area.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care and interpret developmental information in line with departmental policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
  • Certification / Registration / License: Basic Life Support (BLS). Active registered nurse (RN) multi‑state compact or single‑state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where services are provided.
  • Experience: Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, time management, prioritization, problem‑solving, excellent communication, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Technical proficiency: Operating computer functions (e.g., e‑mail, electronic records, digital platforms).

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Lift and support up to 35lbs and push/pull with 30lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150lbs with a second person present.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine hand skills for IV insertion and other procedures.
  • Operate foot pedals on carts or machines and perform physical safety interventions, including restraints and verbal de‑escalation, if needed.
  • May be exposed to chemical/hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing and equipment must be used.
  • Respond quickly to changes in patient and unit conditions; physical abilities testing may be required.
