Position:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Family Medicine
Department:
Carolinas Medical Center – Biddlepoint
Status:
Part time (8 hrs/week, PRN)
Pay Range: $24.10 - $36.15
- Prepare and room patients for examination by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Perform laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
- Assist physicians/clinicians with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, and other primary care procedures.
- Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin.
- Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy when applicable, administering selected fluids with pre‑mixed medications with physician oversight.
- Provide basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment, and self‑care.
- Follow through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times, and referrals to other facilities or services.
- Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relay information back to patients as directed.
- Communicate with physicians and other members of the health care team and document accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
- Perform advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy – butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, and other tasks under clinical supervision.
- Organize and prepare exam rooms, laboratory, and work areas including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique.
- Complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing, and caring for instruments and other equipment.
- Participate in patient‑centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served and apply principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) – must be obtained within 45 days unless otherwise determined.
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
- No experience required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical record systems.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine‑hand manipulation skills.
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Lift up to 50 lbs (floor to waist), 20 lbs (overhead), and carry up to 40 lbs over a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and bodily fluids on a frequent basis.
- Must wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
- Operates all equipment essential to perform job duties.
- Overall compensation includes base pay, premium pay for shift/on‑call, and incentive pay.
