Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — strong neuro critical care background specifically, not general ICU
  • Required skills:

ventilator management, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD and ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, care of ventilated patients, isolation precautions/PPE, and lumbar drain experience
  • Preferred skills: arterial line management

Responsibilities
  • Neuro ICU setting within a comprehensive stroke center
  • Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis — stroke patients represent the largest patient population
  • Drains used include EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino ICP monitoring
  • Specialized equipment includes EVD, lumbar drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
  • Patient ratio is 2:1, with the ability to flex up to 3:1 during high census

  • Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Orientation is 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights); weekly orientation schedule
  • Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must also be completed annually
  • Scrub colors: navy blue and white
