Description:
RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO could potentially result in a cancellation or DNR. The unit is known to be challenging and fast-paced. Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on this unit. Minimum of 2 years of experience is required. Preference is given to candidates with 3 years of experience.
First-time travelers are accepted if they have experience in large or high-volume settings. EPIC experience is required. Key skills required include circulating, performing sterile vaginal exams, and competency in immediate newborn care. Trained personnel must be prepared to precept or orient new staff members as needed. Float requirements include floating as necessary. Weekend work is required every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule.
The patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater, and high-risk antepartum and postpartum care patients. The unit has a triage area for screening patients before admission and performing routine outpatient procedures. Both scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births are conducted, including rescue cervical cerclages. Expectations for nurses include managing a fast-paced environment with higher acuity than usual. Strongly prefer RNs with OR experience.
The unit utilizes PYXIS and EPIC systems. Daily census averages around 20 births, with approximately 40 visits per day. The unit is busy and high acuity. Candidates must be open to floating within the women's unit. Additional responsibilities may include performing routine procedures and support for interdisciplinary services. References can be pending at submission.
