American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-volume, fast-paced Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and proficiency in a setting with over 300 births per month.
Requirements- Active NC or compact RN license required; may be submitted with license pending
- Current certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
- Experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting with more than 300 births per month is required
- Competency in circulating to the OR, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be provided before start)
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must have a 12-month gap before being eligible; facility rehire approval is required
- Work in a high-acuity Labor & Delivery unit within a large hospital setting, including an obstetrical triage unit
- Cares for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for all intrapartum care, as well as high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients; also cares for high-risk patients under 16 weeks on the high-risk maternity unit
- Performs or supports scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
- Patient ratio is 2:1; unit averages 20 births per 24 hours, 30–40 admits per day, and 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
- Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12)
- Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float required as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
- No on-call requirement
- EMR:
Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication - 13-week minimum contract; contracts up to 26 weeks are accepted
- First-time travelers are accepted, but must have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting comparable to this unit
- Orientation is 24 hours, held weekly; approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes)
- Scrubs are provided (blue)
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation
- Travel pairs are allowed; each must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- Strongly prefer RN with OR circulator experience given the fast-paced, high-acuity nature of this unit
