American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience.
Details- 12-hour night shift schedule ), 36 hours per week
- 36-bed Med/Surg/Tele unit within a Nursing
- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery department - Patient population includes complex GI surgeries such as partial and total colectomy, bowel resections, anastomosis, Whipple procedure, distal pancreatectomy/splenectomy, and liver resection
- Also cares for trauma overflow patients
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with surge staffing potentially increasing to 1:7-8
- CNA to patient ratio of 1:9-12
- No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; nurses read monitors and respond
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice to other facilities as needed
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skills required include basic cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
- Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management including Heparin, blood products, IVF, and cardiac drips required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year, required from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Provide direct nursing care to complex surgical and trauma overflow patients on a Med/Surg/Tele unit
- Facility is an 874-bed Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center accreditation
- Support team includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, IV/VAT team, resource nurse as available, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
- Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously employed in a permanent position
- First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
