Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details
  • 36-bed Med/Surg Tele unit specializing in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery
  • Patient population includes complex GI surgeries (colectomy, bowel resections, Whipple, pancreatectomy, liver resection) and trauma overflow
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with surge staffing up to 1:7-8
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:9-12
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; nurses read monitors and respond
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Phillips cardiac monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts, , 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements for travelers
  • Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice to other facilities as needed
Requirements
  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Most recent experience must be within the last year
  • Skilled in basic cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, and NGT placement
  • Experience with drain and tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley catheters
  • Experience managing PCA pumps and medication drips including Heparin, blood products, IVF, and cardiac drips
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • Provide direct care to complex GI surgical and trauma overflow patients on a Med/Surg Tele unit
  • Facility is an 874-bed Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center recognition
  • Support team includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the assignment
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working in a permanent position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
