Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a high-acuity Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.

Details
  • Work takes place in a 53-bed NICU (with overflow, averaging a census of 58) within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes neonates with complex respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/multisystem diagnoses (NEC, NAS, sepsis, congenital anomalies, TORCH infections, and more)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday within each 6-week scheduling cycle
  • Floating may be required to the Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, and general Peds unit as a helping hand (or in a full clinical role with applicable prior experience)
  • No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize staff, floating to similar units applies
  • EMR is Epic; experience required
Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required; most recent experience must be within the last year
  • Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (art lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, CRRT experience, aseptic/sterile technique, oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube and feeding tube management, epidural and PCA management, sedation and analgesic drip management, foley insertion and manageemnt, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, and bedside procedure support
  • Experience with EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), HOFV management, and baby-side ECMO is beneficial; manager has been flexible on these specific skills
  • Candidate must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Robust departmental support includes a unit secretary, charge nurse, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM shifts), and 6 clinical supervisors — all available 24/7 where noted
  • Scheduling is based on unit needs and completed on a 6-week cycle after the core team schedule is finalized; dates of need are provided by the Clinical Supervisor
  • Orientation consists of a NEO orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
