Construction Materials Engineering Technician
Charlotte, North Carolina
What you will doThis role involves outdoor work to test construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials while gaining industry certifications. Your work will support project integrity and safety.
- Project and document analysis: comprehend project specifications before fieldwork and precisely document observations and test outcomes.
- Metafield application: enter and manage data using field and lab information systems.
- Equipment maintenance: verify that field and laboratory equipment are precise and comply with industry standards.
- Special inspection monitoring: adhere to IBC guidelines for testing and inspecting construction materials.
- Stakeholder interaction: communicate with supervisors, contractors, and clients to report project status and address issues.
Work hours may shift based on project needs and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime paid at time‑and‑a‑half.
What we are looking forWe’re seeking someone ready to work outdoors, get hands dirty, and maintain a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and reliability. A strong work ethic and adaptability are key.
Qualifications- Education:
High School diploma or GED. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials. - Certifications (two or more active):
- American Concrete Institute (ACI):
Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician. - International Code Council (ICC):
Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils). - DOT certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete.
- American Concrete Institute (ACI):
- Key competencies:
- Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, writing) in English.
- Basic math skills involving weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
- Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and occasional travel.
- Valid U.S. driver's license or International Driving Permit with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate a company‑assigned vehicle safely (truck or SUV).
- Compliance:
Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements. - Eligibility:
Valid employment eligibility (I‑9) required; visa assistance not available.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain; standing for up to 12 hours per day.
- Lifting and carrying 40‑50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment).
- Working outside normal business hours and traveling, including out‑of‑town and overnight stays.
