We are seeking an experienced, well-rounded CMM Programmer/Inspector to strengthen and help develop our inspection department. This is a hands-on role for someone who can independently program and operate CMM equipment, resolve measurement discrepancies, and establish reliable inspection processes in a precision manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will also play an important role in selecting and implementing a new CMM system. Experience with ZEISS equipment and software is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Create, edit, and optimize CMM inspection programs for precision-manufactured components.
- Set up and operate CMM equipment to perform dimensional inspections.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and customer quality requirements.
- Develop effective inspection strategies, setups, and measurement routines.
- Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections.
- Investigate conflicting measurement results and determine the source of discrepancies.
- Ensure inspection methods are accurate, repeatable, and properly documented.
- Prepare clear inspection reports and communicate findings to production and leadership.
- Help evaluate, select, install, and launch a new CMM system, with ZEISS currently preferred.
- Establish CMM programming standards, calibration practices, and inspection procedures.
- Recommend additional inspection equipment, software, tooling, and department improvements.
- Work with machinists and shop leadership to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Train and mentor inspection personnel as the department develops.
- Help build an inspection function capable of consistently meeting customer and internal quality standards.
- Extensive experience programming and operating CMM equipment in a precision manufacturing or machine-shop environment.
- Strong working knowledge of dimensional inspection methods and equipment.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience inspecting close-tolerance machined components.
- Ability to troubleshoot measurement inconsistencies and validate inspection results.
- Experience developing inspection plans, programs, procedures, and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the inspection department.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience supporting the selection or implementation of new CMM equipment is highly desirable.
- Approximately 10 years of relevant CMM and inspection experience is preferred.
- ZEISS CMM equipment and programming software.
- CMM installation, qualification, or commissioning.
- Building or improving a quality inspection department.
- Training junior inspectors or employees transitioning into inspection.
- First Article Inspection Reports and customer-required inspection documentation.
- Measurement system analysis, calibration, and gauge-control practices.
