Quality Engineer

Full Time Charlotte, NC, US

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving quality assurance activities that support compliant production, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. This role partners with manufacturing, operations, suppliers, and customers to reduce defects, improve process capability, investigate nonconformances, and maintain the effectiveness of the Quality Management System.

The Quality Engineer serves as the technical leader for quality systems, supplier development, manufacturing quality improvements, and customer issue resolution while supporting Powertec's commitment to safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes, procedures, specifications, work instructions, and inspection criteria in support of manufacturing and quality objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics, including cost of quality, scrap, rework, rejections, nonconformances, corrective actions, preventive actions, and customer complaints.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action activities using structured
    problem-solving methods to reduce defects, production losses, and recurring quality issues.
  • Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to identify process inefficiencies, improve product quality, reduce cost, and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Review manufacturing planning, process documentation, blueprints, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure quality requirements are properly defined and met.
  • Review and approve quality and process specifications, process instructions, first article inspection reports, FAIR submissions, and related quality documentation.
  • Drive supplier quality performance improvements through supplier reviews, root cause analysis, corrective action follow-up, and performance monitoring.
  • Interact with internal and external customers regarding rejections, rework, nonconformances, corrective actions, and quality-related concerns.
  • Apply engineering judgment, statistical analysis, and quality tools to evaluate manufacturing processes, identify sources of variation, and prevent defects.
  • Support inspection, testing of finished products, and use of manual or automated measuring equipment as needed.
  • Support internal, customer, and quality system audits and assist with maintaining compliance to applicable standards, including ISO and other customer-specific requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing quality role.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems and applicable standards such as ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements preferred.
  • Experience with DFARS, NQA-1, ITAR programs preferred.
  • Experience with PFMEA, FAIR, root cause analysis, corrective action, preventive action, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Certified Internal Auditor, ASQ certification, or continuing education toward quality certification preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, schematics, written instructions, and verbal instructions is required.
  • Electric motor, aerospace, defense, industrial equipment, or electromechanical manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting military or government contract manufacturing preferred.
