Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Specialist to join our precast concrete manufacturing team. This role is responsible for ensuring all precast products — including pipe, box culverts, vaults, structural components, and/or architectural panels — meet applicable industry standards, project specifications, and internal quality benchmarks throughout the production process, from raw material intake through final shipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily quality inspections on raw materials (cement, aggregate, admixtures, rebar/wire mesh) and finished precast products
  • Conduct concrete testing including slump tests, air content, compressive strength (cylinder breaks), and unit weight in accordance with ASTM and NPCA/PCI standards
  • Monitor batch plant operations to verify mix designs are being followed accurately
  • Inspect forms, reinforcement placement, and dimensional tolerances prior to and during casting
  • Document inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions using QC logs and reporting software
  • Support NPCA Plant Certification and/or PCI Certification compliance and prepare for third-party audits
  • Identify and flag production issues (voids, honeycombing, cracking, dimensional deviations) and coordinate corrective actions with production supervisors
  • Maintain calibration records for testing equipment
  • Train production staff on quality standards and best practices as needed
  • Maintain accurate curing records, including steam-curing schedules where applicable
  • Ensure proper labeling, tagging, and traceability of finished products
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of quality control experience in precast concrete, ready-mix, or related concrete manufacturing environment
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification (Grade I minimum) required or ability to obtain within [60/90] days
  • NPCA QC certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of ASTM standards relevant to precast (e.g., ASTM C1577, C478, C858, or similar depending on product line)
  • Familiarity with both dry-cast (pipe, box culvert, utility products) and wet-cast (architectural, structural) production methods a plus
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to read blueprints, mix designs, and project specifications
  • Physical ability to work in a plant environment, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
  • Basic computer proficiency (Excel, QC software/ERP systems)
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting NPCA Plant Certification renewals or audits
  • Background in DOT or state-specification precast products (culverts, manholes, vaults)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus in many plant environments
