Laboratory Technician positionLaboratory Technician position for the Ernakovich and SoilBioME Lab group for 10hrs/week. Technician will analyze microbial communities and biogeochemical properties of permafrost soil samples under supervision of lab manager(s) and research staff. Technician will also assist with lab maintenance tasks such as chemical inventory management, dishwashing, and hazardous waste disposal. Training will be provided for lab specific protocols for DNA Extraction, PCR amplification, enzyme assays, foreign soil protocols and biogeochemical soil characterization.
Job Duties- Microbial Soil Assays (60%)
- DNA Extraction
- PCR and Gel Electrophoresis
- Enzyme Assays
- Lab Maintenance (30%)
- Cleaning Dishing
- Autoclaving labware and foreign soil waste
- Updating chemical inventory and properly disposing of chemical waste
- Keeping lab notebook (10%)
- Keep complete and organized lab notebook
- Communicate results and issues promptly and clearly with lab manager/research staff
- Update lab protocols as needed
- Commit to consistent work schedule, arrive on time, and communicate needed schedule changes 24 working hours in advance.
- Communicate clearly and promptly
- Work with a group in a shared lab space
$13.00/hour
