- Conduct basic and translational research for genomics-related biomarker discovery in oral and systemic diseases
- Use molecular microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, and microbiology methodologies in bench research
- Undertake research studies defined by department or laboratory leadership
- Design research protocols and experiments
- Implement studies in the laboratory
- Analyze and interpret data
- Perform searches in biorepository, genomic, and bioinformatic databases
- Prepare presentations, data reports, and progress reports
- Develop and perform basic science and clinical translational research projects related to oral medicine, cancer, and autoimmune diseases
- Collaborate on basic, clinical, and translational oral medicine projects
- Instruct and mentor residents, postdoctoral fellows, students, and research associates
- Write and submit independent grant proposals
- Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
- Prepare abstracts and present research findings at local and national meetings
- Participate in safety and quality assurance activities
- Work with minimal direct supervision
- Ph.D., MD-PhD, DDS-PhD and/or another doctoral degree with appropriate research experience in microbiology, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemistry
- Postdoctoral training in reputable laboratories using contemporary biomedical research approaches
- At least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral research in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or relevant biomedical fields preferred
- Experience in biostatistics or bioinformatics and clinical outcome research is a plus
- Experience in basic and translational research in oral medicine preferred
- Ability to develop novel research projects and implement them in the laboratory
- Excellence in oral and written communication skills
- Prior publications demonstrated required
- Demonstrated grant funding preferred
- Organizational, time management, and planning capabilities
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Regular business hours
- Ability to perform work involving prolonged sitting or standing, walking, and routine lifting of documents, supplies, equipment, solutions, and chemicals
Demonstrates expertise in conducting basic and translational research in genomics, with a strong focus on oral medicine, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Proficient in designing research protocols, analyzing data, and securing grant funding while effectively mentoring and collaborating with team members.
