Job Summary

The Start-Up Technician is responsible for the start-up, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment for residential new construction projects. This role ensures all systems are installed and operating in accordance with company standards and manufacturer specifications. The technician must also be prepared to step into a Service Technician role as needed, providing diagnostic support and performing repairs to maintain system performance and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform start up of heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration equipment, as well as other products in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer specifications.
  • Test systems to ensure proper functioning.
  • Identify any issues and follow up with required repair to ensure all relevant components are working correctly to ensure compliance.
  • Complete all paperwork in a neat, accurate, thorough and timely manner.
  • Communicate to office and/or management regarding any additional work or issues that may require change order or adjustment.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety.
  • Other duties as assigned. Duties may vary by location.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Beginner computing skills and able to use a computer, laptop or tablet.
  • Basic proficiency in navigating the internet and email software such as Microsoft Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work overtime with little notice; weekend hours may occasionally be required.
  • EPA Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • HVAC trade school certification.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in construction, HVAC or related experience.
  • Maintenance Service technician experience.

Working Conditions

Majority of work will take place at construction sites. Minimal time spent in an office environment. Travel by vehicle to and from work locations. Regularly exposed to construction environments involving equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, noise, dust, hazardous materials and odors. Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.

Physical Requirements

The candidate must be able to drive and operate a motorized passenger vehicle or forklift; lift/move up to 50 pounds frequently; perform tasks requiring climbing, bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, crouching; work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work on platforms/scaffolding using appropriate fall protection. Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, masks/respirators, reflective safety vests, gloves and safety toe, construction-grade work boots.

Must be able to maintain long periods of standing, walking or sitting. Must be able to hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds to operate phones or other equipment safely. With natural or corrected vision, able to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth perception. Ability to enter text or data into a computer by means of a traditional keyboard or 10-key numeric keypad.

Must be able to use arms and hands to reach overhead, signal, grab, hold, lift, turn, push and pull objects and tools.
