General Purpose of the Position- The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and utilities to support safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production operations. This role is essential in minimizing equipment downtime through proactive maintenance and timely repairs while ensuring compliance with all food safety, quality, regulatory, and workplace health and safety standards.
- The Maintenance Technician works closely with production and other departments to maximize equipment reliability, improve operational performance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Diagnose equipment failures and implement timely corrective actions.
- Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and conveyor systems.
- Replace worn or damaged machine components as needed.
- Perform equipment setup, adjustments and changeovers.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Maintain building systems including lighting, plumbing, HVAC, compressed air and facility infrastructure.
- Repair floors, walls, doors, docks and other facility components.
- Ensure utilities operate efficiently and safely.
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance according to maintenance schedules.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
- Recommend improvements that increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Perform lockout/tagout LOTO procedures before servicing equipment.
- Wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Complete maintenance logs accurately and timely
- Record repairs, inspections, parts usage and downtime.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs, HACCP, SQF/BRC and all food Safety Requirements.
- Use only approved lubricants, chemicals and replacement parts in food contact areas.
- Immediately report any conditions that may affect product safety and quality..
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory and/or audit requirements with chosen auditing bodies.
- Utilizes basic computer skills, including but not limited to MS Office, production software in the daily work.
- Communicate effectively with production supervisors and operators.
- Ability to independently follow policies, processes and programs.
- Proficient in maintaining and repairing production related equipment and systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain valid forklift certification.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English language required.
- Good understanding of proper usage and storage of all chemicals according to MSDS instructions.
- Proficiency with basic computer skills, including but not limited to production related software, MS Office.
- Electrical troubleshooting (120V, 240V and industrial controls preferred.)
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance is preferred.
