Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
At Jenkins Electric, we don’t just service equipment, we help keep some of the most critical power-generation assets in the country running. We’re looking for a hands‑on, technically minded Field Service Technician who enjoys solving problems, working with their hands, and being where the work happens: in the field with our customers.
In this role, you’ll work on hydroelectric turbines, generators, and associated equipment, supporting everything from inspections and maintenance to troubleshooting, installation, testing, and commissioning. No two projects are exactly alike, and that’s part of what makes the job interesting.
If you like variety, take pride in quality workmanship, and want to be part of a team that brings real technical expertise to the job site, you’ll fit right in at Jenkins.
Key Responsibilities- Travel to customer sites and project locations as required, including overnight stays using company‑provided lodging.
- Perform mechanical and electrical inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and testing on hydroelectric turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Assist with disassembly, installation, alignment, cleaning, reassembly, and commissioning of hydroelectric equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and operational issues, using sound technical judgment to identify root causes and develop effective solutions.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, technical manuals, specifications, and work instructions.
- Conduct detailed equipment inspections and document findings, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
- Support startup, operational testing, and performance verification of hydroelectric units following maintenance, repair, or installation activities.
- Communicate project status, technical findings, repair activities, and recommendations clearly with customers, project managers, engineers, and internal team members.
- Complete service reports, inspection records, maintenance documentation, and other required paperwork accurately and on schedule.
- Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical/mechanical testing equipment.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, technicians, and customers to keep projects moving and deliver the quality Jenkins is known for.
- Represent Jenkins Electric professionally at customer sites by providing dependable service, strong communication, and a solutions‑focused attitude.
- Follow all Jenkins Electric safety policies, site‑specific requirements, environmental regulations, and applicable industry standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment on every job site.
- Participate in technical training, knowledge‑sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen your skills and our team's capabilities.
We’re looking for someone who is hands‑on, dependable, mechanically and electrically curious, and comfortable solving problems in the field. The right person doesn’t have to know everything on day one—but they should be willing to learn, ask questions, take ownership, and get the job done right.
A successful Jenkins technician is someone who:
- Takes pride in quality workmanship.
- Can think through a problem rather than simply work around it.
- Is comfortable working around large industrial equipment.
- Communicates well with customers and teammates.
- Pays attention to the details while keeping the big picture in mind.
- Works safely and understands that doing the job right starts with doing it safely.
- Is adaptable and comfortable with travel and changing project environments.
- Wants to continue learning and developing technically.
At Jenkins Electric, you’ll have the opportunity to work on challenging, high‑value equipment in some pretty incredible environments while building expertise that lasts a career. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians who believe in sharing knowledge, solving problems together, and taking care of our customers.
We work hard. We solve problems. We take care of our customers. And we take pride in what we do.
If that sounds like your kind of team, we’d like to meet you.
