Description Of WorkThere are eight Officers of the Day (OD) – four on the first shift, four on the second shift, and four on the third shift – assigned respectively to each of the three residential areas ODs are directly supervised by the Sr HCS and perform daily scheduling adjustments to ensure adequate deployment of available staff to each of eleven homes and three resource centers (1st shift M‑F), supervisory rounding, and providing feedback and assistance as needed.
The duties include, but are not limited to, redeploying home staff, adhering to pull lists and areas in need of additional staff secondary to call‑outs, new 1:1s or medical appointments, trips, etc.; communicating need to hold red dots; compiling OD reports for worked shifts; preparing OD reports for upcoming 72 hours; ensuring the unscheduled leave and overtime worked for occurrence forgiveness in the HR app are correct for that day;
and updating master schedules for daily alterations such as UL and implementation of call‑out restrictions and weekend make‑up shifts.
- Must be able to work with a variety of professional and non‑professional staff.
- Documented experience with use of computers.
- Must be organized and able to prioritize a large volume of work.
- Must demonstrate initiative and be able to work without direct supervision daily.
6:30 pm – 3:00 pm
Sign‑On BonusA sign‑on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025‑2026 Budget Approval. Eligibility for the bonus requires the employee to be a newly hired permanent full‑time or full‑time part‑time employee working 30–40 hours per week; less than 40 hours results in a prorated rate. Employees who are not eligible include:
- Those who have held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months.
- Those who have previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency.
- Those for whom DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
