Salary Range: $69,388.80 to $86,736.00. This is an exempt, salaried position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

Youth and Family Services Division (YFS) of the Department of Social Services (DSS) provides a variation of services to safeguard children by strengthening the protective capacities of families whose children’s health, safety and well‑being are mission of DSS is to strengthen families and communities through a safety‑net of services, collaborations, and hope. This is a specialized position within the Special Victims Unit (SVU) as the Social Work Supervisor. The role provides direct supervision to a team of Child Welfare Specialist IIIs who conduct investigations regarding child abuse and neglect, including child trafficking, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, fatalities, foster homes, and group homes. The team is responsible for providing community‑based services on issues such as child and adult abuse, neglect, exploitation, mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, housing, childcare, or medical care.
The Social Work Supervisor will provide direct supervision, training, support, review, and evaluation of staff involved in Social Services or Public Health. Responsibilities include compiling reports and data to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, assigning and monitoring cases, and providing feedback to staff to enhance performance.
The position is located at 430 Stitt Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213 and may require after‑hours (after 5:00 pm) and weekend work as needed.
Essential Functions- Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of technical and para‑professional staff.
- Consult with teams and staff on individual case assignments.
- Develop procedures to meet department or program goals, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines; review information with teams or staff members to provide guidance and direction.
- Establish performance objectives, conduct periodic reviews and monitor progress.
- Monitor budget activities, adjust expenditures and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Review and audit staff cases and workloads to prioritize duties and referrals for new cases.
- Complete monthly and quarterly program reports.
- Provide consultation to staff in complex case situations, acute emergencies, or cases requiring high‑level decisions.
- Communicate with and visit public and private welfare agencies, hospitals and other institutions to exchange information and develop resources.
- Seek additional sources to increase funding and expand services.
- Review and analyze activity reports and statistics for continuous awareness of program operation.
- May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of social services or human services experience.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health or a related field. Combination of relevant education and experience accepted.
- Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
- Master’s degree in Social Work preferred.
- 5+ years of Child Welfare experience preferred.
