Criminal Justice Services (CJS)is responsible for promoting improvements in the criminal justice system through interagency cooperation, coordination, and planning. It was formed in 2010 by the Mecklenburg County Manager's Office in response to findings from a Justice & Public Safety Task Force.
Mecklenburg County Re-Entry Services facilitates seamless transition of participants back into the community, while promoting employment stability, service engagement and continuing education. Services include comprehensive case management focused on employability and voluntary participation from clients. Along with our partners clients receive assistance for basic needs, treatment services, medication, identification, education, vocational training, work readiness and retention skills training, items needed to begin employment (uniforms, work boots, tools/utensils, etc.),
and medical/dental/vision/medication needs, employment, housing, peer support, and more.
This position within Re-Entry Services provides case management services for people assigned to specific criminal justice programs. This position, under minimal supervision, is responsible for executing daily activities for an assigned program or special interest group.
This position will be located at 715 E 4th St, Charlotte, NC 28202.
Key Responsibilities- Develop relationships with community-based resources
- Manage CJS transitional housing program
- Assist program manager in assessing basic resources for Re-Entry clients
- Monitor individuals’ progress on a regular basis via office visits or phone contact
- Work with CJS Case Managers to assist in resolving problems related to housing, mental health, and substance issues
- Provide customer service and answer inquiries from the public, user agencies, and criminal justice members
- Screen clients for program consideration and provide guidance and decision-making for staff reviewing records and identifying justice involved candidates for program participation
- Maintains complete records and ensures that current information on detainees is entered into the records management system
- Complete administrative and general office tasks and perform necessary data entry of case events
- Conduct communication with participants including maintaining updated lists and contact information and responding to, and directing requests for, information
- Compile and maintain statistical reports
- Serve as the staff liaison between member committees and the organization
Experience:
- Minimum four years of criminal justice or related professional experience.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Social Work.
- Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?:
Yes
- May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
- May require ability to obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit
- Experience in criminal justice case management
- Experience working with justice involved individuals within workforce development
- Experience working with justice involved individuals within transitional housing programs
