Roof Above is a comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers a continuum of services ranging from street outreach to a Day Services Center, emergency shelter, and housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach approximately 1,400 individuals each day across all our services combined.
POSITIONSUMMARY
The Shelter Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily management of the shelter shift. The shift supervisor is accountable for providing basic needs of guests, addressing operational needs of the shelter, and ensuring shelter coverage. This position works collaboratively across teams to facilitate service delivery to guests and will provide shelter support and assist with access control at RA low-barrier shelter.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Reports directly to the Shelter Manager
- Able to perform all duties of the shelter specialist position.
- Oversight of daily shift operations as well as emergency response protocols
- Responsible for initial onboarding and ongoing training of shelter specialists
- Coordinate, schedule and assign rotating posts (i.e., access control, meal service, roving, etc.)
- Supervises mail distribution and sorting and ensures secure mail management procedures are followed.
- Conducts hourly building runs and reports any maintenance issues to facility management team in real time via work order request system.
- Ensures compliance with all Roof Above Shelter policies and procedures.
- Communicates in real time with shelter manager regarding ongoing staff issues and concerns and participates in performance improvement planning.
- Coordinates and completes locker searches and pod inspections as directed by Shelter Manager
- Documents and input all incident reports into HMIS & RA Incident Reporting System before the end of each shift.
- Ensures shift summaries are completed and distributed by the end of each shift.
- Acts as the primary crisis intervention coordinator to ensure escalated situations are managed as effectively and safely as possible.
- Ensures daily chores are completed and supports Shelter Manager in maintenance of chore list.
- Willing to work flexible hours as needed which may include evening, weekend, overnight, and some holidays.
- Proficient within HMIS Database, and able to support the ongoing development of shelter specialist HMIS competency.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Preferred to have at least two years of experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, with a preference for experience in an emergency shelter setting. Clear care and concern for people experiencing homelessness.
- Minimum of two years’ supervisory experience preferred.
- Certification in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) within thirty (30) days of hire. Training will be provided.
- CPR, AED, first aid, and naloxone training within thirty (30) days of hire. Training will be provided.
- Experience working with people experiencing homeless, mentally illness, and substance abuse populations strongly preferred.
- Evidence of good judgement and ability to make quick decisions. Comfortable setting boundaries with guests.
- Excellent interpersonal managerial and supervisory skills necessary.
- Excellent writing skills and computer literacy are required.
- Ability to flourish in a hectic work environment and to prioritize competing demands.
- Strong administrative skills and comfort with the use of computers, databases, and technology. Experience using HMIS.
- Hard work ethic and willingness to do a variety of tasks.
- Positive attitude and adept at customer service
- Valid Driver’s License required and willingness to operate an agency van
