Lead Software Engineer (Java/Kafka)

Cognizant’s Digital Engineering practice seeks a highly qualified Lead Software Engineer with at least 15+ years of experience developing high‑performing, scalable enterprise applications. The role involves collaborating with product managers, designers, and clients to deliver reliable, maintainable code using an agile approach.

Location: Charlotte – NC

You must be legally authorized to work in the USA without the need for employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future.

• Work independently with minimal supervision, taking full ownership of tasks from initiation to resolution.
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of microservices architecture, employing design patterns and best practices.
• Implement critical infrastructure that supports the development ecosystem, including Kafka streaming and cloud services.
• Mentor and guide a high‑performing engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate product requirements into scalable, high‑quality solutions.
• Work in the client’s office for at least three days a week.

• Minimum 20+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java 17 and Spring Boot based microservice development.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with Kafka and streaming technologies.
• Strong background in back‑end development (Java, services, database).
• Experience with Open Shift/Kubernetes and cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with React, cloud services, and test automation.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $102,600 to $162,500, depending on experience and qualifications. The role may also be eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to applicable plan terms.
