Senior Java Developer – Engineering Efficiency & AI Champion/ Staff Software Engineer 5
Senior-level Java engineer dedicated to improving engineering efficiency across multiple application teams. Dev Ops role, role focuses on increasing developer productivity, code quality, CI/CD maturity, and operational excellence, with a strong emphasis on integrating AI-assisted development tools. The consultant will rotate across teams, assess codebases and workflows, and deliver production-ready pull requests that automate processes, reduce technical debt, optimize pipelines, and standardize best practices.
Environment includes Java/Spring Boot microservices deployed on AWS ECS, PostgreSQL databases, Angular frontend, Docker-based containerization, and modern CI/CD tooling.
Must haves:
- 10+ years of hands-on Java development (Java 17+) with deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, and REST API design
- Strong PostgreSQL (or other relational/non-relational DB) experience including query optimization, indexing, and schema design
- Solid AWS experience: ECS (Fargate/EC2), ECR, Cloud Watch, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC
- Hands-on CI/CD pipeline design and optimization (Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, AWS Code Pipeline, or similar)
- Docker and container orchestration experience on AWS ECS
- Experience improving build times, automated testing, deployment reliability, and rollback strategies
- Strong Git workflow expertise (branching strategies, PR best practices, code reviews, conflict resolution)
- Experience integrating or leveraging AI coding tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot, LLM APIs) into development workflows
- Background in developer experience (DX) or platform engineering focused on internal tooling
- Experience building AI-powered utilities (code review bots, test generators, documentation generators, PR summarizers)
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, Cloud Formation)
- Observability tools experience (Datadog, New Relic, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana)
- Knowledge of OWASP security best practices and automated security scanning tools
- Contributions to open-source or internal developer tooling initiatives
