Lead Java Software Engineer

Our client, a well-known financial services company, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Java Software Engineer to guide, mentor, and drive our engineering team forward.

You will play a critical role in architecting solutions, coding, and ensuring technical excellence across projects. Candidates must possess strong Java and Spring skills, proven leadership experience, and a practical ability to leverage AI tools for development. This is a hands-on leadership position where your technical expertise and ability to inspire junior engineers will directly impact our success.

This is a 12-month, W2 contract to start!

• Lead and mentor software engineering teams, including junior engineers, ensuring strong collaboration and fostering professional growth.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, architect, and deliver robust Java applications using Spring and Spring Boot.
• Utilize SQL and relevant databases in application development, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
• Apply AI technologies and tools (such as Copilot, ChatGPT, or IDE-integrated AI assistants) to accelerate coding tasks, code reviews, and problem-solving. Be prepared to discuss examples in interviews.
• Implement software solutions with a focus on microservices architecture and associated design patterns.
• Drive development within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or Git Hub for seamless deployment and automated testing.
• Take ownership of code quality and reliability through unit testing frameworks (JUnit, TDD/BDD).
• Guide development in Scrum/Agile environments, participating in sprints, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Support front-end development as needed using Angular or React.
• Coordinate development and deployment practices with cloud-native solutions and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Utilize IDEs such as Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA for daily development and optimization.

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot frameworks.
• 5+ years of experience with SQL and relevant database technologies.
• Demonstrated experience using AI tools to assist with coding tasks; examples must be highlighted on your resume and discussed during interviews.
• Proven track record as a Lead Engineer managing and mentoring teams and junior engineers; be ready to showcase this in your application and interviews.

• Experience developing and deploying applications in a CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins or Git Hub.
• 2+ years of experience with Angular or React for front-end development.
• Familiarity with Scrum/Agile methodologies.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with JUnit, TDD, or BDD testing frameworks.
• Exposure to or understanding of Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and related design patterns.
• Experience with development tools such as Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA.
