The position involves performing recreational work in planning, promoting, developing, and supervising recreation programs for the City of Archdale. This employee carries out policy decisions and departmental goals under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director.

• Plans and directs a variety of special recreation and social events; prepares estimates of cost for each event; identifies personnel, equipment, and other resources necessary.
• Instructs and trains staff in techniques, policies, and procedures.
• Plans and organizes social and instructional activities and programs for senior citizens, adults, youth groups, and disabled persons; arranges meetings, trips, parties, and other activities.
• Plans and organizes various programs. Maintains up to date contracts with instructors and works to meet their program needs.
• Supervises a summer day camp program and after-school program; instructs staff in games, arts and crafts, and other activities.
• Schedules part-time staff hours.
• Processes rentals of gym, activity rooms, shelters, ball fields and senior center through appropriate procedures and forms.
• Promotes recreation programs by writing news articles, developing program brochures.
• Assists parks and recreation director in preparing annual budget for recreation activities.
• Evaluates recreation activities and presents reports and evaluations to the parks and recreation director.
• Assists parks and recreation staff with city-wide special events.
• Serves as a representative on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management and some experience in recreational programing and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess a valid North Carolina Class C commercial driver license with passenger and school bus endorsements or can attain certification within 3 months of hire. Must possess a valid CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification. May require duties outside of normal operational hours on nights or weekends occasionally.
