Overview
Transportation Construction Inspector (Full-Time)
Location:
Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
- Provides on-site compliance inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring for conformance to plans, contracts, and specifications.
- Communicates with and advises contractors of discrepancies and necessary actions.
- Maintains project records, including daily diaries and documentation of work performed.
- Verifies materials and material documents, sends additional samples to laboratories when required.
- Assists with review of payment applications, final inspections, and creation of punch lists.
- Communicates effectively with the client, contractor, traveling public, adjacent property owners, other stakeholders, and the MBP team.
- Ensures highway work zones and traffic control comply with current standards.
- Performs basic to moderate difficulty tasks including materials testing and basic surveying.
- Performs various administrative duties (timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports).
- Stands or sits on project sites, climbs ladders, works at heights, and operates outdoors in various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Construction work experience and understanding of transportation construction methods.
- Experience inspecting roadway widening, intersection improvements, signalization, bridges, roadway maintenance, streetscape, utilities.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Pass fingerprint-based criminal background check, DMV driving record check, reference verification, and work history check.
- Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics (algebraic, geometric, trigonometric computations).
- Construction-related training and/or experience in road/bridge construction, civil engineering, materials, and tools used in transportation projects.
- Preferred certifications: VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Protection, Asphalt Field Level I & II, Soils and Aggregate, Pavement Marking, Nuclear Gauge Safety, Guard Rail Inspector Training, ACI Concrete, DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control, Stormwater Management; other relevant certifications include WACEL, ICC, NICET, MARTCP.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office, email, internet navigation, and web-based tools.
